The Distribution tab shows occurrences by place and period, and a choropleth map of the historic counties of Britain and Ireland (the boundaries GRO-era records were kept in, keyed by Chapman code).

Assigning counties #

The map only shades counties you have assigned. Use the county-assignment screen to attach a historic county to your places; places with no county assigned are still counted but not shaded. London deliberately has no automatic suggestion - it spans several counties, so the choice is always yours.
