Reports, PDFs and GEDCOM Files (Pro)

2 min read

The Deliverables tab holds everything you hand over: reports written in the plugin, and files you made elsewhere.

Writing a report #

Choose a final report, interim report or letter report and press Start writing. A final or interim report has Objective, Summary of results, Recommendations, Background, Limitations, Findings and Conclusion; a letter report has Objective, Findings and Recommendations. A new report is filled in from the agreed plan and the research log. Each finding can carry numbered citations, up to 40 findings.

Before it can be sent, a report needs an objective and at least one finding, and every citation number must point to a citation. Use Preview as your client will see it or Preview as a PDF, then Save and send to the client.

PDFs #

Sending a written report makes its PDF, in the font, colours, logo and letterhead from Your reports in Settings, with page numbers. The PDF is fixed at that moment: changing your branding later does not change a report already delivered. The client can read the report in the browser or download the PDF.

Files made elsewhere #

Under Upload a file you made elsewhere, choose the file (PDF, Word, images, plain text or GEDCOM), its kind, a title and a version. It arrives as a draft until you send it. New version starts the next version of any deliverable.

GEDCOM files #

A GEDCOM must be uploaded as the GEDCOM kind, and a file of that kind must be a .ged file. Before it is stored you answer three things: is it final or interim (an interim file needs you to confirm that an unproven conclusion looks exactly like a proven one in a GEDCOM), does it contain living people, and has your client been told what it contains. Every download of a GEDCOM through a link is recorded, and the Deliverables tab shows how many times and when.

Living people #

Mark: contains living people keeps a deliverable off every family link, whatever else is set. A GEDCOM you said contains living people keeps that mark for good - upload a version without them instead.

The final sign-off #

At Final review your client signs off the work on their Reports and files page. See "The Research Plan, Quote and Sign-off (Pro)".
