Promotion is the one way out of the workbench. When a question is finally answered, promotion writes the conclusion into your family tree - as a fact or event, with the artefact attached and a citation recording where it came from.

What promotion needs #

• The question it answers.
• A person the question is linked to.
• At least one artefact held as evidence for that question.

Without all three, promotion does not proceed - by design. The whole point is that nothing enters your tree without its reasoning and its source attached.

What it writes #

The event or fact, its media links to the artefact's files, a source and a citation, and a trail recording the promotion itself. Everything is written through the shared AncestorPress core, never by hand, and the question is marked answered only after the write has fully succeeded.

If something goes wrong #

The writes run as one transaction. If any step fails, the whole promotion is rolled back and you are told what, if anything, could not be undone automatically. A half-written conclusion is never left in your tree.

One-way #

Promotion goes into the tree, never back out. Your research - the artefacts, the questions, the log - stays here, private, and is not republished by promoting a conclusion.
