AP Family Trees › Future Direction

Help shape AP Family Trees

AP Family Trees is live and running on real sites. We are now researching where it should go next — further chart work, optional research assistance, and what large trees genuinely need. Your input should shape the direction more than our guesses do.

Where we are looking

No fixed roadmap yet — at this stage your input steers it. What moves left depends on what you tell us.

Recently shipped4

  • Support Copilot on every admin screen
  • Free GEDCOM export of your complete lineage
  • Rebuilt on a shared data engine for large trees
  • Privacy hardening for living and private people

Under evaluation4

  • Further chart types and display-density controls
  • Optional AI assistance — biography, research planner, transcription — using your own AI key
  • Match hints that surface possible connections in your own data
  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) access, so your own AI assistant can answer questions about your tree — read-only, on your own site, and only when you switch it on

Being considered2

  • Prepaid AI credits, for those who would rather not manage a key
  • A free biography demo built into the core plugin

Tell us what we have missed

Publishing a family tree on your own site is a particular way of working. If we have missed something that matters to your tree — a chart you need, a display limit you keep hitting, a feature you cannot do without — we would genuinely rather hear it than not.

Every suggestion from someone running a real tree is read and weighed.
